Effutu: Independent Parliamentary candidate remanded into Police custody
An independent parliamentary candidate for the Effutu constituency, Louisa Buabeng, has been remanded into police custody by the Winneba High Court on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
The ruling was made by Her Ladyship Justice Marriam Agyeman Gyasi Jawhary.
Buabeng was initially arrested on November 20 at the court premises after a hearing related to an election matter she had filed.
However, she was re-arrested on Wednesday evening and brought before the court the following morning.
Citi News reports that the arrest followed the discovery of several voter identification cards at the residence of one of her aides.
While the aide has been charged with unlawful possession of documents, Buabeng faces a charge of conspiracy to commit a crime.
The court has remanded the candidate into custody for four days, and she is expected to reappear before the court on Monday, December 2, 2024.
