Ashanti Region Key Power Generation Hub – Energy Minister Announces
In the face of increasing electricity challenges in the Ashanti region of Ghana, the Energy and Green Transition Minister, John Abduali Jinapor, has announced that the Ashanti Region will soon become a key power generation hub when the various electricity projects are completed.
According to Mr. Abdulai Jinapor, the projects when completed successfully will generate 700 megawatts of power to add up to the grid already in existence in the region.
During a working visit in the company of the Ashanti regional minister, Dr. Amoakohene, the minister inspected key facilities, including the Ameri Power Plant, Cenit, and ASKSA Energy Plants at the Awomaso Bulk Power Supply enclave.
He assured the general public that he would see to it that the energy crisis that has hit Ghana’s second densely populated region will become a thing of the past.
He reassured Ghanaians that the government is committed to ensuring that the power stays on to enable businesses that run on electricity to thrive thereby boosting the economic fortunes of the country.
Mr. John Jinapor said, “The supply situation has been stable, and we are able to export some excess amount of power. But there is still more work to be done. Beyond generating the power, you have to evacuate it, you have to transmit it, and you have to distribute it. And so we are working around the clock to ensure that we address this challenge and ultimately ensure that we have a very reliable supply and delivery of power.”
He also commended the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) for completing the installation of a new transformer, which he said will play a crucial role in power delivery.
“Let me commend GRIDCo for completing this transformer. It is going to play a very significant role as far as power delivery is concerned. What we witnessed over the past two days has to do with the fact that when you are switching from one transformer to the other, you will have some few challenges.
“And so let me assure the people of Kumasi that that problem has been resolved, and we look forward to a very improved delivery of power.”
The Kumasi and its environs have been experiencing intermittent power supply due to some maintenance ongoing in the region. Residents in the region have expressed worry over the situation and have called for expedited action to resolve the continuous power challenges.
The government’s commitment to expanding power generation and strengthening transmission infrastructure is seen as a crucial step toward long-term energy security in the region.
