The full list of African teams who have Qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup
The group stages of CAF World Cup qualifying wrapped on Tuesday with Match Day 10 across the continent. The nine group winners have booked their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals in North America, while the four best second-place sides enter a playoff to determine the nation that will represent Africa at the intercontinental playoffs in March 2026.
Group A – Egypt
Mohamed Salah and his Pharaohs teammates kicked off the campaign in November 2023 with a thumping 6-0 win over Djibouti, and then added a regulation 2-0 win over 10-man Sierra Leone, putting them top of the group and in control of their World Cup destiny.
Apart from a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Guinea-Bissau and another draw away to Burkina Faso in Match Day 8, when the group was already settled, Egypt have cruised to the World Cup finals, where they will be odds on to improve their dismal finals record of never having won a game with two draws and five losses in three previous appearances.
Group B – Senegal
The Lions of Teranga sealed their qualification on the last Match Day after cruising to a 4-0 victory over Mauritania, but their most important win came in Match Day 8 when they went to Kinshasa and beat top spot rivals DR Congo 3-2.
Group C – South Africa
Bafana Bafana found themselves in a tough qualifying group featuring Nigeria, Benin and Rwanda, with Lesotho and Zimbabwe making up the numbers. The South Africans seemed nailed on to qualify after Match Day 8 but were deducted three points for fielding an ineligible player, Tebogo Mokwena, against Lesotho.
A poor 0-0 draw with Zimbabwe in Match Day 9 meant they needed Nigeria to do them a favour by taking points off group leaders Benin on the final day, while South Africa needed a win against Rwanda.
Nigeria duly beat Benin 4-0 (which qualified the Super Eagles for the play-offs) and Bafana saw off Rwanda 3-0 to secure a dramatic last-day qualification.
