Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu has completed his move to Monaco.

The centre back underwent his medical and officially penned his contract after a £17million deal was agreed between both clubs earlier this week.

Salisu had looked set to join Fulham but the proposed £15m switch collapsed last week, opening the door for Monaco to reignite their interest and finalise talks.

The Ligue 1 club had been tempted to swoop for the 24-year-old earlier in the window in their bid to strengthen their backline before the start of the new season.

The former Real Valladolid man had one year left on his terms at St Mary’s and was not included in Saints’ squad for their recent pre-season friendlies.

Indeed, his last appearance for the south coast side came back in March and he was left out toward the end of last campaign due to issues with his commitment. Salisu joined Saints for £10.9m and has departed after a three-year spell.

He made 80 appearances in all competitions but became a key target for Monaco this summer and was allowed to leave after the club’s drop to the Championship.
