Late Kikibees CEO’s Girlfriend Gets GH¢200k Bail
An Accra High Court has granted bail to Mam Yandeh Joof, the accused person in the alleged murder of Bennet Agyekum Adomah, Chief Executive of Kikibee’s Restaurant and Lounge at East Legon.
The court, presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, granted the accused person bail in the sum of GH¢200,000 with one surety to be justified.
An earlier application for bail was refused by the High Court, presided over by Justice Marie-Louise Simmons.
However, the court, differently constituted, granted the bail yesterday, largely because the final autopsy report, attached to the application, shows that the deceased died from severe injury to the head following a fall due to alcohol intoxication.
Lawyer for the accused person, Muniru Kassim argued in court that the facts of the case, as presented by the prosecution, do not support the charge of murder preferred against his client.
He intimated that it is unjust to continue to keep Mam Yandeh Joof in custody when the police investigation has not established any connection between the passing of the deceased and the accused.
Mr. Kassim, therefore, urged the court to protect the rights and liberty of his client, as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.
Marian Boakye, a State Attorney from the Office of the Attorney General, opposed the application for bail saying that it is premature as the police are still conducting their investigations.
The court, however, agreed with counsel for the accused and proceeded to grant the bail.
Mam Yandeh Joof burst out in uncontrollable tears immediately she got out of the courtroom, and it took great efforts from relatives and friends to calm her down.
It would be recalled that about two months ago, the accused was hauled before the Madina District Court on a charge of murder, following the death of her boyfriend, Bennet Agyekum Adomah.
Narrating the facts, the prosecution stated that the deceased and the accused were in an amorous relationship for the past three (3) years.
About three months ago, the deceased travelled abroad and returned to Ghana in the evening of October 7, 2023.
The deceased arrived at his residence at East Legon from the airport around 6:00pm.
He took some rest and later in the night around 8:00pm he left the house to the Kikibees Restaurant and Lounge at East Legon.
At about 12:30am on October 8, 2023, the deceased left the Kikibees Restaurant to visit the accused in her apartment at Ogbojo.
Later in the night, at about 1:30am, the deceased suddenly became hyper and started behaving strangely and throwing things in the room amidst shouts that some people were chasing him.
The other tenants in the house were awoken by the noise whereupon the accused rang a close friend of the deceased and informed him to come to her apartment to assist her, but the friend came and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen throwing his hands about.
The tenants in the house assisted them and took him to DEL Hospital at East Legon, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The death was reported to police and the body was conveyed to the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
During inspection at the scene, pieces of broken ceramic glass with blood stains were found in the apartment.
The body was inspected and a cut was found on the left thumb of the deceased.
The accused was subsequently remanded in police custody by the Madina District Court.
