Lucas Paqueta could reportedly be ‘banned from football for life’ by the Football Association (FA) should he be found guilty of breaching the organisation’s rules on gambling.

It comes as further details of the alleged £100,000 betting operation have now seemingly emerged.

The West Ham forward, 26, is facing a lengthy ban after he was charged by the FA on May 23 for allegedly being deliberately booked during games that took place during the 2022-23 season in an attempt to influence betting markets.

The incidents are alleged to have occurred during Premier League matches against Aston VillaLeeds, Leicester and Bournemouth, with the FA alleging that Paqueta picked up yellow cards purposefully during those games so he or his friends could profit through betting.

The Brazilian attacking midfielder has strenuously denied any wrongdoing, but it appears, according to The Sun, that the FA’s charge sheet contains a recommendation that Paqueta be banned for life if he is found guilty of the breaches.

Paqueta had until June 3 to respond to the charges made against him, with the FA charging with four breaches of FA Rule E5.1 in relation to his conduct during the above matches.
