Lionel Messi named in Argentina squad for World Cup Qualifiers
Lionel Messi has been named in the Argentina squad for their November World Cup qualifiers ahead of Inter Miami’s MLS playoffs decider.
Lionel Scaloni named 28 players in his squad that will face Paraguay and Peru later this month in their 2026 CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying games. Messi will represent Inter Miami in a crucial MLS Playoffs decider against Atlanta United on Saturday. If they manage to win the clash, Miami will qualify for the Eastern Conference semi-finals, which start on November 23. In between, the Argentina skipper will represent his national team.
The reigning world champions are set to face Peru first on November 14 followed by the clash against Paraguay which is scheduled for November 19. This means that Messi will potentially get only four days of rest before playing for Inter Miami again. The tight schedule after Argentina’s second qualifying game could affect the 37-year-old’s training and playing time in the next stage of the MLS Playoffs – if Miami get past Atlanta.
Messi displayed scintillating form the last time he wore the national team shirt as he scored a hat-trick in their 6-0 win over Bolivia. Argentina are currently at the top of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying table with 22 points from 10 matches.
