President John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana and the Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces has emphasised his government’s commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of both military personnel and civilian staff within the Ghana Armed Forces.

Addressing high-profile dignitaries and graduands at the graduation and commissioning ceremony of officer cadets at the Ghana Military Academy on Friday, April 11, President John Dramani Mahama outlined plans put in place by his government to upgrade the support system for both serving and retired personnel.

President Mahama said, “Dear military personnel and civilian staff, I am determined to systematically improve your conditions of service. GEHOC will be one of our key plants in providing sustainable financing for the Ghana Armed Forces. Your sacrifices deserve recognition.”

He emphasized that those who had completed their service to the nation would also be duly honored, pledging that his administration would ensure prompt payment of retirement benefits:

“For our retired personnel who have sacrificed so much for our nation, we will ensure that your retirement benefits are paid promptly,” he added.

President Mahama highlighted the Ghana Armed Forces’ vital role in maintaining national peace, security, and development, noting that the government remains committed to providing the necessary resources to help the military fulfill its professional and operational mandate.

Speaking to the cadets, President Mahama said, “Graduation cadet today marks the beginning of a new chapter in your life. You are no longer officer cadet—you shall soon be officers of the Ghana Armed Forces. The nation looks up to you with expectations, hope, and confidence. You are part of the future of the Ghana Armed Forces. Your actions will shape the destiny of our nation.”

He added, “Remember that leadership is not about rank or privilege. Leadership is about responsibility and service. I urge you to live with integrity, courage, and compassion. I encourage you to be officers who inspire loyalty. I expect you to be leaders who earn respect and uphold the highest standard of professionalism.”

President Mahama underscored the importance of the Ghana Armed Forces in safeguarding the nation’s democratic values and stability, encouraging all service members to maintain the highest standards in both conduct and service to the nation.
