Paris Saint-Germain were crowned Ligue 1 champions on Sunday for the third year in a row after Monaco fell to a 3-2 defeat at Lyon.

PSG played out a 3-3 draw with Le Havre on Saturday to go 12 points clear of Monaco heading into the 31st matchday in the French top-flight. Monaco looked capable of delaying the title holders’ party when they went 1-0 up in the early stages of their clash in Lyon, but the home side fought back to go 2-1 up after 26 minutes.

Monaco managed to pull level again in the second half as Ben Yedder scored his second, but Lyon had the final word, with Malick Fofana netting the winner in the 84th minute. The result leaves Monaco 12 points behind PSG with three matches left to play. Luis Enrique’s team cannot be overtaken and have claimed the national title for the 12th time in their history.

PSG have lost just one of their 31 games in the league this season, scoring a whopping 76 times and conceding just 29 goals. Star forward Kylian Mbappe is on the road to claiming the top scorer prize, having netted 26 goals – a massive 18 ahead of his nearest challenger for the award.

PSG will now turn their attention to their Champions League semi-final tie against Borussia Dortmund. The French side will visit the German club for the first leg on Wednesday before welcoming them back to Paris for the return fixture on May 7.
