The Ministry of Roads and Highways has called for calm following the blast incident on the Buduburam stretch, which resulted in significant damage and injuries.

The incident resulted in the death of three people with over 30 people injured.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry, Nasir Ahmad Yartey, addressed the incident, emphasising the importance of maintaining order and following established safety protocols.

“We will make sure that the contractor sticks to the strict protocol for doing this. We have done this 21 times without any incident,” Yartey stated, highlighting the Ministry’s commitment to safety and adherence to procedures during controlled blasting operations.

Yartey also expressed concern over the violent reactions that followed the blast.

“I should also put on record that when the incident happened, about 20 workers from the company were severely beaten by the youth in the area and about two workers were nearly lynched to death,” he said.

In response to the unrest, the Ministry has called for calm among the community.

“We want to call on the youth to calm down. The security agencies should also take charge so that we make sure that no further life is lost after this incident,” Yartey urged.

The Ministry, along with the police and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the incident and to ensure that all necessary safety measures are in place for future operations.
