  • Eto’o accused of paying someone to send threat
  • File submitted to FIFA
  • Match-fixing allegations also made

The Athletic reports that Eto’o is facing a long list of accusations made against him in a file that has been sent to FIFA’s Ethics Comittee. The current president of the Cameroonian Football Federation is alleged to have been involved in match-fixing, spreading false information, making threats, inciting violence and ‘abuse of power’. Former Fecafoot vice-president Henry Njalla Quan Junior sent the file to FIFA and it is also being investigated by the CAF. Africa’s football federation has already confirmed investigations are being made into claims of “improper conduct” against Eto’o and FIFA has previously been urged to remove the former Barcelona star from his role following a string of incidents.

Njalla Quan Junior alleges that a match between his academy and Kumba City FC was fixed by Eto’o, describing the incident as “the most scandalous… in the history of mankind”. The Cameroon chief is also accused of arranging for a team owned by “close associate” Valentine Nkwain to win promotion. Victoria United did indeed go up after winning 11 of their final 17 games of the season despite losing four of their first seven.

The Athletic adds that Njalla Quan Junior’s relationship with Eto’o subsequently deteriorated, which led the ex-striker to allegedly pay for a threatening message to be sent. It read: “I am a mafia of this revolution and in this specific mafia we do not betray our leaders. I have protected the interest of our mission till date. However, if you f**k with me be ready to carry the load of the circumstances.”

Eto’o was filmed brutally kneeing a man in the face after Brazil’s clash with South Korea at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The Cameroonian was a regular at games in the Middle East but was caught up in a scuffle after the match in an incident that was reported to the police.

Controversy has followed Eto’o around for a long time now. The former African Player of the Year was fined and given a 22-month suspended jail sentence in 2022 after pleading guilty to a charge of tax fraud. He’s also become an ambassador for sports betting company 1XBET despite his role with Cameroon, which appears to be a violation of FIFA’s ethics code. It remains to be seen what will happen regarding Njalla Quan Junior’s file on Eto’o and how the world’s governing body will react to the shocking allegations made.
