Wenchi Methodist Hospital, assembly to bury 28 unclaimed bodies
THE WENCHI Methodist Hospital in the Bono Region has announced its plan to conduct mass burial for 28 unclaimed and unidentified bodies at the hospital’s morgue.
The hospital said the bodies had remained in its mortuary for almost three years thereby causing congestion at the facility.
Health risks, burial
“It is announced for the information of the general public especially families with issues of missing persons that the Environmental Health Unit of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly and Management of Wenchi Methodist Hospital are processing for the burial of 28 unidentified persons (paupers).
“The bodies have remained in the morgue for almost three years now and has since hindered smooth services and operations of the morgue,” it said.
The statement said authorities had made several attempts to reach out to the public for the identification and collection of the bodies but had not been successful.
“In view of these inconveniences and other related health risks, special burial shall be conducted after one-week from Thursday, January 23, 2025 to Friday, January 31, 2025 to decongest the overburdened morgue/mortuary,” it said.
The statement added that by the public notice, concerned families, individuals or groups should as a matter of urgency contact the hospital for identification and collection of their bodies before Friday, January 31, 2025.
The statement said the collection of the corpse would not only alleviate the burden on the morgue but also ensure dignified burial and arrangements for the deceased.
